Hungarian companies return to previous practice of paying dividends in 2022
Hungarian resident financial and non-financial corporations made a record amount of over HUF 11 trillion of after tax profit in the 2021 financial year, of which owners voted to pay out HUF 6,541 billion dividends in 2022. Thirty per cent of dividend income went to resident households, 25 per cent to other domestic sectors and 45 per cent to non-resident owners. In the previous two years, total corporate profit after tax was broadly flat and dividends declared payable rose marginally. All holding sectors were affected by the stagnation in dividend income during the pandemic. Subsequently, however, all sectors have realized an increase in income. The new statistical release on developments in dividend income is available here: Approved dividends of resident corporations by owner sectors (mnb.hu).
