  The key components of the balance of payments are the current account, the capital account, the financial ac-count and the net errors and omissions. Net lending – the sum of the current account and the capital account – shows the aggregate balance on goods and services, income, transfers. The financial account records transactions in financial assets and liabilities and that take place between residents and non-residents. The financial account is subdivided by functional and instrument categories: foreign direct investments, portfolio investments, financial derivatives and employee stock options as well as other investments and the international reserves. The value of the stocks may change due to transactions, exchange rate changes, revaluations due to price changes and due to other changes in volume.

• 2008-2020 annual data presenting the impact of the September 2024 benchmark revision

  The European Statistical System (ESs) and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) formulate joint recommendations regarding the harmonized revision practice of macroeconomic statistics (balance of payments and international investment position, as well as financial and non-financial accounts of natio-nal accounts).According to these recommendations, during the benchmark revision to be carried out every five years, the entire retrospective time series is open for revision in order to publish the longest possible, consistent macroeconomic time series. It becomes possible to implement estimates, data corrections, and methodological changes beyond the regular revision period.In the EU, the benchmark revision date is linked to the September 2024 publication, as part of this, the MNB retrospectively revised its balance of payments statistics until 2008. Retrospective data corrections beyond the normal revision period were carried out, new estimates could be included, existing esti-mation methods were extended back for improving consistency with the financial and nonfinancial ac-counts, incorporate backdata already published by the financial or national accounts statistics.
