2008-2020 annual data presenting the impact of the September 2024 benchmark revision
The European Statistical System (ESs) and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) formulate joint recommendations regarding
the harmonized revision practice of macroeconomic statistics (balance of payments and international investment position, as
well as financial and non-financial accounts of natio-nal accounts).According to these recommendations, during the benchmark
revision to be carried out every five years, the entire retrospective time series is open for revision in order to publish
the longest possible, consistent macroeconomic time series. It becomes possible to implement estimates, data corrections,
and methodological changes beyond the regular revision period.In the EU, the benchmark revision date is linked to the September
2024 publication, as part of this, the MNB retrospectively revised its balance of payments statistics until 2008. Retrospective
data corrections beyond the normal revision period were carried out, new estimates could be included, existing esti-mation
methods were extended back for improving consistency with the financial and nonfinancial ac-counts, incorporate backdata already
published by the financial or national accounts statistics.
